If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s a time of day when you’re physiologically strongest, there is. The rumors about peak strength are real.

In fact, a new randomized trial in older adults just found that some people were up to 34% stronger at their best hour compared to their worst, with the average bump being about 11%. And for most people, that peak landed in the late afternoon or early evening. Which makes it awfully tempting to schedule every workout around this personal power hour.

But come on, you know it can’t be that easy. Because that same study found something very interesting when it comes to peak-hour muscle and strength gains. And it points to something even MORE important.

Here’s what you REALLY need to know, and do, to get the most out of your workout time. Plus the one place the clock DOES matter.
