If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last decade, you’ve probably heard that sitting is the new smoking. The “new” publicly accepted, enjoyable, everyday lifestyle habit that feels ever so relaxing while you’re doing it, yet is secretly deteriorating your health from the inside out.

Kinda hard to believe, right?

Well, for good reason. Because that slogan, in all its social media clickbait glory, is turning out to be exactly that. At least when it comes to your brain. As the data is showing it’s not so much the sitting, but instead it’s what you’re doing while sitting that’s the deciding factor.

Because thinking that reading a book, doing your taxes, learning a language, mindless scrolling, and watching your fourth consecutive hour of a show you stopped enjoying three and a half hours ago all have the same impact on your biology is a tad naive, don’t ya think?

Here’s why sitting the right way may actually be neuroprotective, along with how to offset your bad sitting in the process. Ya know, so we don’t have to storm and pillage every furniture store in America and make life a hell of a lot more uncomfortable. Although it would do wonders for our daily step count.
