100 Billion….

…is the modest number of neurons the average, soon-to-be intelligent walking ape comes equipped with at the start of this thing called life… A Number which shrinks by design, being pruned to about 80-90 billion by early adulthood.

It is HERE, these “Oh So Critical” brain and nervous system cells which facilitate the advanced cognition that allow us humans to human, hit a crossroads...

Because neurons, unlike many other cells throughout the body, very rarely turn-over, meaning most of them are life-ers! And when they fade into the darkness, so do the pathways of knowledge and function they behold.

Thus, priority #1 for ANYONE looking to maximize their “Here and Now” while “Living Long and Finishing Strong” should be doing things which nurture, preserve and optimize their neuron function.

And once we lock-in that strategy for priority #1, we can talk about how the creation of NEW neurons in adulthood (aka Adult Born Neurons) seems to be possible, at least within certain regions of the brain (in animal models).

Now, here’s where things get interesting. Although these new neurons would only account for a small minority of total neurons, recent research suggests that they may not-only integrate into and strengthen existing neuronal networks but also help stave off cognitive decline as an organisms ages.

And get this….There seems to be one particular intervention that helps them do this…..
